Nearly forgotten about this one
Sep. 1st, 2012 04:01 pmJust stumbled across the box set of Falling Skies - Season 1 at JB HI-Fi - buried on Foxtel as this one was, I had forgotten that it was once on my "To Watch list". I hope it's OK, given that I am going to watch the series for the next day or so!

Aug. 31st, 2012 11:18 pmYes, the "cheap" pet we picked a few years ago just cost me $1000 in vet bills for a blocked urethra and subsequent treatment. He's back home tonight but he still looks very ill.

Aug. 26th, 2012 09:52 pmWent to Tactics today and grabbed a copy of Hurricane Season. Very pretty, much fluff and a few rules. At least I know how to use my Landing Platforms and Small Landing Barge Set and a Large Landing Barge that I bought last week.
Talking of DW, the company is impressing me every time I see waht they are planning - witness the new CoA releases: Fresnel Class Medium Naval model and Aronnax Class Large Naval Diving Robot (my emphasis).

Movie Review: The Dark Knight Risies
Aug. 19th, 2012 08:17 pmJust been to see this movie and I can't say that I enjoyed it much. A number of times, I found myself thinking "Everybody stop talking and just DO something - anything!"
Even though the opening was stunning (but what was the point of the blood transfusion thing - false DNA evidence for the crash investigators, perhaps?), far too much of the film was spent with various characters telling us either why they did what they just did or explaining what they were about to do. Just get on with it and then we'll draw our own conclusions -and if you can't do that from what is on the screen, you haven't made a very good movie. In addition, get an editor - this movie could have lost half an hour at least with no loss of story line.
Closing scenes were nice - got to love the ambiguity there.
In short, too much talk, not enough crash!

Aug. 17th, 2012 10:49 pmSpartan Games have gone ahead and launched their Martians Marsians Invaders range - and the models look really nice. I hope their rules are really different too, not just an analogue of each regular fleet counterpart.

Impressive models
Aug. 11th, 2012 11:03 pmWent into to Tactics today and bought a Landing Platforms and Small Landing Barge Set and a Large Landing Barge. The pictures do not do those models justice - the "small" landing barge is big and the "large" landing barge is just enormous, easily the biggest model I've seen yet for the Dystopian Wars range.

Jun. 22nd, 2012 10:43 pmWe went out for lunch today to celebrate the end of the semester for the students. We went to Hog's Breath - my own meal was very nice but a number of the other meals turned up late and/or cold. We were a very big party (27 people) but to their absolute credit, Hog's Breath responded by gifting us desserts - out came three free Hoggies Rocky Road Sundaes.
