Not sure how old this is but B and J caught my eye!

Buffy and the Heroine's Journey out in mid- 2012. Sounds like it could be quite a good read - another one for the list1

Joss Whedon: Conversations - I think I might have a look for this one.

Yet again, I have missed the announcement of another academic BtVS book - this time it's Buffy in the Classroom: Essays on Teaching with the Vampire Slayer.

The blurb sounds interesting:
This book combines the academic and practical aspects of teaching by exploring the ways in which Buffy the Vampire Slayer is taught, internationally, through both interdisciplinary and discipline-based approaches. Essays describe how Buffy can be used to explain--and encourage further discussion of--television's narrative complexity, archetypal characters, morality, feminism, identity, ethics, non-verbal communication, film production, media and culture, censorship, and Shakespeare, among other topics.

Sexual Rhetoric in the Works of Joss Whedon - due out on 26th January 2011. Not sure how I didn't see the original announcement for it but it certainly sounds interesting from the blurb:
Topics covered include the role of virginity, lesbianism and homoeroticism in the shows and the comics, the nature of masculinity and femininity and gender stereotypes, an exploration of sexual binaries, and a ranking of the Buffy characters on the Kinsey scale of sexuality.

Holy crap!

A few weeks ago I looked at the Supanova website for this year's guests in Perth and didn't see anything of particular interest to me so I wasn't going to go.

And then I go back today and what do I see but this:
Tahmoh Penikett
Eliza Dushku
Charisma Carpenter and
Felicia Day.

Holy crap!

Amusing satirical take on BtVS S1 in ultra-brief script format at Scriptease - and what a stunning photo (one I don't think I've seen before).

The third omnibus will be out in November, according to the Simon and Schuster website. The volume will comprise Carnival of Souls, Blooded and One Thing or Your Mother.
The cover is here )
I enjoyed all three of those books so this should be a good buy. Let's hope these sell with enough interest to get some new books written and on the shelves.

The covers for the two new omnibuses, each of three BtvS books, are here

and they are here too. )

I'm not sure how all three of these books escaped my attention but I'm clearly going to have to go on the hunt for them as soon as possible:
Buffy and Angel Conquer the Internet: Essays on Online Fandom (Paperback)
Angel (TV Milestones) (Paperback)
Buffy Meets the Academy: Essays on the Episodes and Scripts as Texts (Paperback)

Whilst watching Two and a Half Men (just don't ask), the actress who plays Berta has always struck a vague bell for me. I just happened to watch BtVS S2e20 Go Fish today and then realised where I know her from - she is Conchata Ferrell who is Nurse Greenleigh in this episode. I love it when I solve a puzzle like that!

TVOvermind reports that some version of the Buffy comics will be made in an animated style - whether this is the old comics or the S8 comics is uncertain and whether it is stop-motion (a la Watchmen comics) or a fuller style of animation is also uncertain. It does appear that Joss may be involved which means I'm in!

Now, I just need to find some other source of information to confirm this.

Tim Minear's eloquent and lengthy response is here. What a wordsmith! :-)

In view of the ongoing debate about rebooting the Buffy movie I thought I would go and revisit the original movie.

Some personal reflections about the movie follow. )

Just. Not.

Music, Sound and Silence in Buffy the Vampire Slayer is the title of a new book out in August 2009. Running through the contents, it sounds it could ne a very interesting read, I think. The use of music to generate mood in BtVS was an outstanding feature of the series, and silence> No doubt Hush will get some analysis there.

and they are both here. )

I posted the cover for BtVS Omnibus #6 a short time ago but according to TFAW, it has changed

to this, maybe? )

Went to my two favourite shops whilst in Perth today. From Quality Comics, I got BtVS S8 Issue 18 (Jeanty variant cover), AtS: ATF Issue 12 (Garner variant cover) and BtVS Omnibus #5. From Empire Toys, I got Spike ATF Issue 3 (Sharp Brothers variant cover) and AtS: ATF Vol 2 HC, but sadly no Volume 1 so I put that on order.

Plenty of reading to do in the next few days! WOOHOO!
