Continuing to impress me, Spartan Games followed up their Tanks, Tanks And More Tanks announcement with release of the first wave of those figures on 3rd April. Two of the CoA tanks are in that first wave and I like both descriptions:

Spartan Games just showed the latest wave of ground force releases for Dystopian Wars. Looks impressive - and a few suitably wacky designs to keep the fun element going!

I'm not entirely sure which nation has which model - although the "flying squid" is pretty damn obvious - so my guess for CoA is for #9 (Orpheus Class Drone Controller), #11 (Skorpios Class Heavy Bombard) and #24 (Janus Class small walker). The Janus could be quite interesting because it looks like it has some kind of energy weapon there - somewhat like the Fresnel. It is possible that #16 (Colossus Class Small Robot) may also be CoA but I'm not so sure.

It will be interesting to see the stats once they become available.

Finally got to start work on my Covenant of Antarctica Armoured Battle Group. The bases are clear acrylic - I guess I had just assumed that they would be black plastic like almost every other company's figures are. I don't know why it surprised me but it did!

With the upcoming Storm of Steel expansion and the infantry tokens, I decided to bite the bullet and get my first DW land units - off to Tactics it was (on the way back to the station after a meeting in Perth) and bought a Covenant of Antarctica Armoured Battle Group. I'm actually quite curious to see if the land models are as well cast as the sea/air models I'm used to.

Spartan Games just released the details for the two new models coming for the Covenant

I am becoming quite impressed with the releases from Studio Sparta and they've now added some terrain to the range. Both the Military Base Island Set and the Industrial Complex Set look quite impressive

The very day after the long-overdue Invaders pdf finally gets released, my Invaders bundle arrives in the post! Looks like everything is there although I am not looking forward to attaching those long spindly legs though - I wonder if Dave might help me pin them .....

Finally!

Spartan Games finally released the Invaders rules in a blog post. I'm still redaing the rules to figure out just how the Invaders will play - they certainly look tough, taking damage only on CR's but the drone clusters look a bit daunting too!
Now, if my Invaders starter pack would just arrive, all would be fine!

Just got the latest newsletter from Spartan games and the infantry tokens will be released with the Campaign Guide: Storm of Steel book. I'm glad they have gone with abstract tokens rather than the tiny 1.5mm figures they would have had to do if they had kept in scale!

The tokens themselves look quite nice - not quite sure what the dice thing is, maybe morale and unit strength/wounds perhaps?

Just got the e-mail from Spartan Games to say that my Invaders bundle has now shipped. Should get here about 9th October, maybe - that's the usual rough shipping time.

I just ordered my Invaders Bundle from Studio Sparta. I'll order a second one next fortnight. That should give my Dystopian Wars games a new dimension. Now I just have to wait until that bloody PDF with the stats and unit rules on appears on the website!

Good game of Dystopian Wars last night

Went to Tactics today and grabbed a copy of Hurricane Season. Very pretty, much fluff and a few rules. At least I know how to use my Landing Platforms and Small Landing Barge Set and a Large Landing Barge that I bought last week.

Talking of DW, the company is impressing me every time I see waht they are planning - witness the new CoA releases: Fresnel Class Medium Naval model and Aronnax Class Large Naval Diving Robot (my emphasis).

WOOHOO!

Holy crap!

Just how many times can Spartan Games impress me? (hint: the answer is endlessly!)

I bring you the Aufseher Class Assault Airship! There are so many things right with that model that I don't even know where to begin. I say again, Holy Crap (and I don't even play Prussians)!

Spartan Games have gone ahead and launched their Martians Marsians Invaders range - and the models look really nice. I hope their rules are really different too, not just an analogue of each regular fleet counterpart.

Went into to Tactics today and bought a Landing Platforms and Small Landing Barge Set and a Large Landing Barge. The pictures do not do those models justice - the "small" landing barge is big and the "large" landing barge is just enormous, easily the biggest model I've seen yet for the Dystopian Wars range.

Spartan Games will release Campaign Book: Hurricane Season, Large Landing Barge and Landing Platforms and Small Landing Barge Set - just after we had been talking at PAGS about the lack of integration between the land and sea versions of the game. Once we get the airborne transports, it will be really intergrated.

Rather than go all the way up to Perth for the Dystopian Wars Edition 1.1 Master Rulebook, I decided to drop into Asgard Games during my lunch break. Sadly, no book (but they have ordered it for me) but I did get a second Covenant of Antarctica Naval Battle Group!

As an additional bonus I dived into Cosmic Comics (right next door - so convenient!) and they had a hardback copy of The Walking Dead: Rise of the Governor so I grabbed that too. Neither were what I went shopping for but both were good buys!

I got a chance to read Noddy's copy of the Dystopian Wars Edition 1.1 Master Rulebook at PAGS tonight - those rules really have changed more than I thought they would have so I definitely need to get a copy of that book ASAP. I had the impression that this was just a minor rules tweak but it is considerably more than that - the sooner I get familiar with the new rules the better.

Had my second "serious" game of Dystopian Wars last night and enjoyed the game again.
