I grabbed 2 DVD's that interested me today when I went over to JB HI-FI: Watchmen: The Complete Motion Comic (I watched the first two chapters on TV a few weeks ago and was intrigued) and Astonishing X-men: Gifted Motion Comic because I just wanted to see how the story would adapt to the medium. Haven't had a chance to watch them yet but I'll try to do so over the next few days.

It looks like the whole Gifted arc will be available on DVD, in R1 at least, from 7th September according to Amazon. I had never thought of this a coming out on DVD, don't really know why, but maybe this will also get and R4 release?

I really enjoyed Joss' run on Astonishing X-Men but I haven't read any of Ellis' take on the story so I thought I would read Astonishing X-Men: Ghost Box TPB to try it out. I tried, I really did but I just cant get past the artwork. When I can read a scene where I can't recognise Emma Frost then something is terribly wrong, given Emma's iconic position in the Marvelverse. Don't get me started on my inability to tell the difference between Cyclops and Wolverine - I know, wtf?

The story was OK - I like Ellis' writing on other things - but the artwork just made it impenetrable for me. I'm really disappointed because I wanted to read more of this story but sadly, this will be my last dip into this story - unless that artist changes.

Which woman of the X-Men is right for me?

She's right behind this cut. )

Had a great time at Supanova today. I got Jewel Staite's signature on the Jo Chen - Kaylee cover in the Serenity: Those Left Behind HC.

2 photos here. )

The only other thing I had planned was to cross paths with [livejournal.com profile] sloop and I did. Great to put a face to the name - and I scored a free poster too. Hellboy 2 : The Golden Army looks amazing too (that was the stall [livejournal.com profile] sloop was on).

sloop in action! )

After grabbing some lunch (decidedly flaccid mince pie which was a shame since it was labelled Pepper Steak Pie!) I got around to buying. I had saved up heaps to spend here and yet had the frustrating experience of not spending even 1/4 of what I had with me! I was however very very happy with what I did get:
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Creatures of Habit GSA - particularly happy to find this as this has been MIA from all my usual haunts for a long time
Buffy the Vampire Slayer Vol. 7: Food Chain TPB I don't think I've ever seen this one around here before, both bought from Kings Comics
and AXM vol.4: Unstoppable from comiczone which just made my day since no-one else there had it in. WOOHOO!

Costumes on the day were very impressive with so many I recognised and a whole heap I didn't, but so many clearly showed the time, effort and passion that had been spent on the costume.

How could I go past these guys though?
501st Legion )

And finally two random shots of the show - busy enough to get a good atmosphere without being too crowded that it became claustrophobic.
Crowd shots. )

And finally, most disconcerting moment for me - Darth Vader at the next urinal to me. DARTH VADER DOES NOT HAVE BODILY FUNCTIONS - or so my brain desperately tried to tell me :-)!!!!

Would I do it again? HELL YEAH!

It's not really but this video is the closest we're probably ever going to get to see Cassaday's work in motion. Very nice piece of work and the voices and characterization are all good to excellent

I'm sorry but that is just not to my taste. Sorry BKV but even your presence won't be enough to keep me interested.
