I had forgotten .....
Jul. 16th, 2009 07:32 pm..... just what a great place the Baen free Library is! I just downloaded all six books of the Belisarius_series for free. I read the first few books of this series years ago but had lost interest for a while. Now I have all six to read. WOOHOO!
I just grabbed the Jekyll box set for AUS$14.99!
WOOHOO!
I thought it might have been priced wrong because all the others in the rack were at AUS$34.99 but this one was the only one at that price. Then again, when she swiped it, it came up at the cheaper price so maybe that was its price. I love the way they call it Season 1 - somehow I think this will be its only season!

From the bargain bin
Mar. 15th, 2008 02:51 pmAs usual, I was caught completely unawares by the onslaught but all these DVD's just forced me to buy them:
Citizen Kane
American Psycho/AP2 twin-pack
Blade Runner - The Final Cut: Special Edition and
28 Weeks Later.
Mind you, they were all from the sale bins and I didn't pay more than AUS$12 for any of them.
The only one I paid full price for was 30 Days Of Night - Limited Edition but even that was down to AUS$32.
I know what I'll be doing for the next few hours.

D-Day for me
Feb. 17th, 2008 09:55 pmClearly, it was The Day of D's for me today - I put Dexter S1 (down to AUS$36.49 already - WOOHOO!) and Dilbert - The Complete series (down to AUS$15.99) on lay-by today. I've never seen the cartoon version of Dilbert but I find the strip funny at times so figured that I'd give it a try.
The D's continued with an unexpected tray of a dozen doughnuts landing in my lap, two of them literally, the other 10 metaphorically, as the person handing them over to me manged to hit the edge of the counter with the box and kind of flipped the box at me. I did catch 83% which I thought was good - but I got THE WHOLE BOX FOR FREE for my "troubles". WOOHOO!

Dead Like Me
Feb. 25th, 2007 09:42 pmFinally managed to buy S1 of DLM on Saturday - for only AUS$31.87 (US$25.24). I have watched all but the last 2 episodes and I like it a whole lot. George's uninspired approach to life (and death) is wearying at times and yet there is that little spark that is ignited every so often - when she sees Reggie's "special" tree, when she finally "gets" Dolores, when she gets her strike in the office ten-pin tournament. It changes her from what is, after all, a fairly unlikeable character into someone I can feel empathy with (in many ways similar to Jaye Tyler of Wonderfalls, Bryan Fuller's "other" series but Jaye is funnier yet more frustrating in other ways to me). The stories are themselves reflective of a fairly bleak view of life yet there is always some kind of redeeming facet to every story. Great, great stuff. Now I just have to wait until they put S2 out cheap too!
I also scored the BSG mini-series for AUS$12-87 (US$10-19) - the last time I saw it it was AUS$32 - for a single frakking disc!
I'm off to watch that but first I will finish off the last 2 episodes of DLM

The return of King Cheapo
Dec. 9th, 2006 07:25 pmWent shopping to day.
Not only did Blackout finally turn up in the shops (so what's wrong with yelling "YAY!" in the middle of the store, Mr. Security Guard?) but I got Arrested Development S3 for AUS$23.95 (that's US$18.83) and Reservoir Dogs Collector's Edition for AUS$5.92 (yes, just US$4.65). I haven't seen that edition of Reservoir Dogs before - the second disc has all kinds of extras:
- Deleted scenes
- Alternative angles
- Cast & crew interviews
- Tribute to Lawrence Tierney
- Director's tribute
- Class of '92 feature
- Small Dogs documentary
- Film noir web
- Select scene commentary
- K-Billy interactive radio
- Style guide
- Securing the shot documentary
- Trailer
- Poster gallery.
I'm not sure which one to start on first!

King Cheapo stikes again
Oct. 17th, 2006 02:34 pmMy second alter-ego - King Cheapo - appeared for the first time in ages today. I am notorious for being ... umm .... not overly generous with my money. So I am in the shops wondering how I can get enough money together to buy BSG S2 on DVD. Right now it is usually AUS$65 at the store I was in. As I look through the cabinet for the boxset, I have a momentary panic when I see that they have all gone, only to notice that there is one set left on the shelf but it is flat on the shelf rather than upright (and that's why I missed it on first glance). I don't know why but I went to have a closer look but I did. In the stampede that followed, I think I elbowed two grannies out of the way, kicked at least one infant in the face and headbutted the guy who looked like he was going to get to the counter before me.
The reason? Well the price sticker on that very last boxset read AUS$24.95(that's just US$18.78 for those of you playing in the US!)
So I am now the proud owner of Battlestar Galactica Season 2 for about a third of its usual price. That deserves both a "WOO" and a "HOO"!
YESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!
