There sure is, according to Suite 101. It will be called Spartacus: Gods of the Arena and focus on the house of Batiatus prior to Spartacus' arrival. I understand the reason for this but I'm still not sure that this will work out.

That's OK. I'm still bummed about Andy Whitfield. They're recasting, you know. That guy will have tough shoes to fill and a tough time getting fan acceptance. I'm dying to know who it will be.

I heard Wentworth Miller wants the role, and I really hope that doesn't happen. Did you see any Prison Break? That dude is a one-note actor. I liked him in the first season in spite of that fact, but that dude does not have any nuance. I did read that they want someone with a convincing British accent so I'm sure that in itself will exclude Wentworth.

Whoever they recast is going to have a hard time - Whitfield just nailed that role.

I never could get into Prison Break but I did watch all of S1 and the start of S2 and definitely agree with your comments about Miller.

I wonder why the British accent is so essential - it's not like Spartacus was supposed to be from there, or, for that matter, that a British accent even existed then. I'd have thought that Hannah's Scottish accent already made the accents irrelevant?

And you know how possessive fans can be. I expect people to hate whomever they cast just because he's not Andy Whitfield.

I don't know about the accent. I assumed they wanted him to seem European. Oh, and I was wrong when I said they wanted a convincing accent. The article I read said "authentic". I think that means they want to cast a British actor.

Definitely, even if they got the perfect replacement, he's still catch grief from the fans simply because he wouldn't be Whitfield. I thought the purpose of Spartacus: Gods of the Arena was to fill in while Whitfield's treatment happened and they'd go back to Spartacus: Blood and Sand S2 in the next season once he had recovered. If they are recasting now, I guess this means they are moving on?
