I really wanted the show to explore more of how Fred was stil inside Illyria, that she soaked her up like a sponge, but they never went there. Her soul burned up in the fires of resurrection, yeah right. Likely story!
So tell me without really telling me anything, do any of the comics go anywhere close to that theory? Do they explore what it's like for Illyria to be Illyria but also Fred at the same time? That subject matter was just so ripe for emotional story, and I'm still devastated the opportunity was cut short.
I haven't read this series yet so I am not sure but the Only Human series has a go at it. Compared to the power of the TV episodes that dealt with Fred's death and Wesley's grief, nothing has even come close to that yet though, sadly.
I've never understood the fans that accepted the "soul burned up in the fires of resurrection" explanation - considering the solitary source of the info, I would doubt it's reliability.

I was suspicious from day one.
I had a fic idea that dealt with this, and it took Wesley to a really dark place. It was awesome - in my head. I was never able to put it to paper...er, computer.
