Damned cat!

The cat was in a serious fight a couple of nights ago. I went out to rescue him and he did look very beaten up so I checked him over. There was a large ruffled patch on his back which I checked over but no bites were obvious. Yesterday morning he was moping about looking very sorry for himself so I checked him again - clear, still. This morning he was looking way worse and, when I picked him up he hissed at me. I checked him all over this time (as I should have last time) and there, just to the left of his scrotum was a large wound, about two inches long and deep (1/4 inch or so). I had to go to work then but my partner took him over to the vet.
The cat has antibiotics for the infection in the wound, two sets of stitches (one set of internal soluble stitches to pull the wound together and a second external set to close the wound) and a plastic collar around his neck to stop him licking the stitches. He's also spending the night at the vet's to make sure there are no complications, all for the bargain price of $500 dollars!
