I grabbed a copy of this movie for JB Hi-Fi today and watched it as soon as I got home. I can't say that I like CGI movies as a whole, but, that aside, this wasn't too bad. Much more like the original MI from the book rather than the very lightly armoured infantry of the movies to date. The plot was obvious - bugs have a plan, MI foil plan by the skin of their teeth and the bugs lose yet again but it wasn't badly executed for all that. The advantage of CGI is that the scale of the movie can be truly grand and this one certainly took advantage of that. The real measure is that, if they make another one of these, I'll buy it.

I bought an Airfix Robogear Battle Model Kit for some proxies for my SST Forth army. I can use the 20 troopers as rebel colony militia but more importantly, I can use the walkers as Fenris walkers and 2 spider walkers. I just need to get a few more GW Tau Stealth suits to use for Fenos walkers and my Forth army will be complete.

YAY!

I grabbed an SST Arachnid Overseer Bug from Tactics today. I already knew that this kit was a pain to put together but I'm not sure I quite realised just how much of pain until I opened the kit. Holy Mother of pinning!

Just got some more SST goodies in the mail today - two Plasma Bugs, one Hopper Bugs and one M-9 Chickenhawk. I counted up - I now have 20 assorted SST boxes to make up - not to mention about the same amount coming in the next month or so. Time to get working, I think!

For the Forth in SST, at least some of the Robogear war walkers might quite good proxies. A bit of modification of the cockpits to close them in and they should be ready to go. Hell, there's even a spider walker which could be an excellent proxy for the Forth spider battlesuit.

Food for thought - of course it is yet another range that is OOP but that seems to be my fate these days!

At last!

WOOHOO! My Starship Troopers Miniatures Game Starter Box came in the post today - now I can get modelling, painting and playing at long last! WOOHOO!

PS That's not where I bought the box from - just a link. I'm keeping the location a secret as these things are as rare as hen's teeth!

I really like the look of the Crassus armoured carrier - ironically not for 40K but for rebel militia and/or colonists for SST.

A whole series of videos on painting and assembling SST figures

and here's the first two. )

Splurged today whilst at Tactics today - got a box of Skinnie General and Elite Guard, two boxes of Skinnie Slaves, 4 blisters of Skinnie Raiders and one blister each of a Skinnie Tyrant and a Leader of Slaves. The stock of SST miniatures at Tactics decreases alarmingly after each of my visits!

All the "kits" look very simple to make - indeed if there's anything to do except slot into the base!

I haven't given up on the SST game - over the last week, I have bought and downloaded Skinnies Army Book, Arachnid Army Book, Klendathu Invasion and Starship Troopers Modelling and Painting Guide. I think the only remaining book I need is Starship Troopers: The Roughnecks which is a next-week-purchase.

I have also bought a smattering of figures but the one thing I am really stuck on is Arachnid Warriors. Almost everything else I can get or at least find a reasonable proxy for - I think I'm just going to have keep searching all the on-line stores I can find along with e-bay and various other auction sites.

Just bought and downloaded the SST: Mobile Infantry Army Book. Given how hard it is to find stuff for this game, this was quick cheap and painless. Now if only I could "download" the figures so easily!

As I have now read almost all of the rules for Starship Troopers: The Miniatures Game, I thought I would look around to see where I could buy some of the units. How difficult could that be after all? The answer appears to be very - in Australia, at least. It was no go at any of my favourite online stores, e-bay seemed pretty ordinary and after that, I'm out of options!

Having bought the core rule book for Starship Troopers: The Miniatures Game on Saturday, I've spent the last two days reading it. The game mechanic is quite dissimilar to 40K (and simpler, it would seem given that this book is 128 pages instead of 40K's 450+ pages). I think Dave and I may have a go with proxy models next week (Space Marines for MI and 'Nids for bugs - why not?) to get a hang of the rules. I need to take photocopies of the templates in that case and buy a handful of d10's before next Monday.

Went into Perth today and went to Tactics. I have dithered over this for ages but I finally plunged and got the core rule book for Starship Troopers: The Miniatures Game. Given that this game has already been discontinued, it is probably a really bad idea to start this but on the other hand I love the the look of the game and the models so I shall plunge in .....
