After the weekend's epic journey, I am still feeling the effects, mainly tiredness but also spasms in my hip from sitting for so very long. I have a very busy and active day at work tomorrow so that will hopefully work out most of that stiffness. In the meantime, bed is the best place for me to go and that's where I am headed right now.

We're back

Took us a little longer to get back than we thought, mainly because we waited at Denham for a while extra just in case the mechanic could fix the car but no go. Eventually got going at about noon but the trailer was very heavy and failry hard to haul so we were a lot slower coming back.

Summary - covered 1907 kms in about 18 hours of driving in about 26 hours. YAY for team driving! But now I am really really tired!

Just got into Geraldton with my father-in-law as co-driver. We managed the drive up to Geraldton in good time after taking a while getting the damned prescription filled. In the hotel right now. Plan is to sleep 1-5am then back on the road by 6am, getting to Denham around 10 am, the drive back to Perth getting back 7pm, allowing for time to get loaded up etc. Tired now so going to bed.

Roadtrip!

Just got a phone call from my brother-in-law to tell me that he's stranded in Denham - about 900kms north of here and that he needs to get picked up. His 4WD's on-board computer just fried itself on the way back from Exmouth and they can't get it repaired. He's also got a very large camping trailer that he needs to get back to Perth too. Oh, and as a last complication, he's run out of his medication and he needs that urgently.

I guess that means I'll be doing some driving over the next day or so!

The trip turned out to be lots of fun, even if I was a bit underwhelmed by Beverley (sorry, any Beverley-ites out there). It didn't seem that cold this morning but I took a sweat shirt any way. Darren decided that he wanted to give his SAAB convertible a bit of a burn and going 110kph in a convertible when it is only 16C, is cold. After a while, I realised that my teeth were chattering so I put on the sweat shirt and it all became much more warmer!

Lunch was a pleasant surprise - Darren had made an exquisite lunch of cold meats and cheeses and dolmadas (not sure of the spelling but they were stuffed vine leaves any way!) followed by chocolate muffins. Very nice considering I was expecting a luke-warm meat pie from a dodgy deli somewhere between No and Where.

We came back via York and did some bird-watching on the way. Considering how much noise we were making, we did well, managing to see about a dozen species including Golden Whistlers and a flock of 6 White-tailed Black Cockatoos.

Some photos follow and they are large

but at least I put them behind a cut. )

Well, more like "Day Trip" but there you go. I got a call from a friend who has to drive out to Beverley tomorrow and asked if I would go "to relieve the boredom". Not for my stunning good looks or scintillating wit but as a general purpose boredom reliever? Hell yeah, I'm in! I think we are going via York so we might be going via the indirect route, I suspect!
