You know you are in Melbourne #4
Jul. 13th, 2010 04:57 pmwhen .....
1) every single person in the row I am sitting in has some kind of fancy coffee and a danish - and no two are even from the same store. In fact some of the coffees may well have a mix of yak butter and goat's cheese in, judging by the smell!
2) someone in the queue behind you rejects the sushi because he's not convinced it's been made using the right type of seaweed.

You know you are in Melbourne #2

1) there are Ambulance lights/sirens and Fire Service lights/sirens (but NO police ones) hurtling past the windows on an hourly basis. What is it with sirens in Melbourne - people have lots of accidents and fires but no crimes are committed?
2) the casually presented "finger foods" are better food than most of the entire dinners I have had in restaurants for the past 5 years?

It's always messy
Jul. 9th, 2010 05:10 pmIt's always those fiddly last minute things that it take ages to assemble and pack. I am a great fan of lists and when I'm packing, I'm even worse than usual. In fact, I'm just ticking off the last item on my lists of lists - yes, I even write meta-lists! That said, I'm always the one, when we are travelling, that everyone else asks for a map or a band-aid or an extra sweater or whatever it is they forgot to pack!
I will admit that I am insufferable to travel with because of my obsessions with time and lists so that's usually why I travel alone. Fortunately, Darren, the friend that I am going to Moodlemoot with, is just as obsessive about time so we should travel well together. Our current plan is to get to the airport two hours before the time that we have to get to the airport by, thereby giving us a comfortable margin of error.

All set to go
Jul. 6th, 2010 11:21 pmFinally got all of the last few permissions through to go to Melbourne for the Moodlemoot next week. Just as well, considering that we booked the air tickets and accommodation about a month ago! I like a Melbourne a lot so I'm really looking forward to it. Just got to remember to take lots of warm clothing because it's been could there for the last week or two.
Melbourne in July?
Mar. 24th, 2010 09:14 pmI'm fairly sure that I'll be going to Melbourne from 11th to 14th July to attend the Moodlemoot for work since I'm one of the administrators for our section's website (which uses Moodle as its LMS). I'll be going with a co-worker who is a good friend so it could be fun. Just need to get the boss' final approval for costs!
