Finally some good news
Feb. 26th, 2011 10:04 pmWe have now heard from all friends who were in the Christchurch CBD during the earthquake. All are well and uninjured although some have gone back to damaged homes. Just a few more people to hear from - but it is the same two couples who took a while to get in touch after the September 2010 quake so we're not that worried.

Feb. 24th, 2011 11:22 pmChristchurch's death toll climbs still, unfortunately and is likely to keep doing so. At least there have been no major after-shocks so far.
There is at least one piece of good news for us though:
about 1 minute in - that's Mike Harvey - one of our friends being interviewed. Seeing tanks on the streets is always a little jarring though.

My home town hit again
Feb. 22nd, 2011 07:36 pmAnother large earthquake hit Christchurch, although lower on the Richter scale than last September's (6.3 vs 7.1). this one was much shallower (5km vs 15 km) so it has caused casualties and a lot of damage:

Let's just hope that there are none of our friends and families amongst the casualties. Sincerest condolences to those who have already lost loved ones.

Sep. 23rd, 2010 10:34 pmJust heard from the last of our friends from Christchurch - they hadn't been in touch because they've been in Europe on the Grand Tour. I think they posted today from Venice of all places! They are fine (of course) and so is their house.
A little better news
Sep. 6th, 2010 10:08 pmWe have heard from most friends in Christchurch now - all have had damage but all their houses are structurally intact and they are all well. Michael is a firefighter and he'd just finished a non-stop 30-hour shift - tired but OK. Just two more to hear from - but neither use computers much so it may take them a little longer.

Sep. 5th, 2010 10:38 pmLater news articles are getting a clearer picture of yesterday's earthquake in Christcurch: some initial responses, political and logistical, (complete with illiterate headline!) and the next threat. Still haven't heard from any friends there .....

Sep. 4th, 2010 11:16 pmEven though I haven't lived in Christchurch for 17 years, it is the place which I will forever identify as home.
It got hit with a 7.1 (Richter scale) earthquake early today and the damage is significant. We haven't been able to get hold of many friends yet but the mobile network is not working well so it doesn't surprise me.
