Battle #55
Jul. 6th, 2010 11:11 pmI don't remember too many details from this game, largely because of being in shock at having been made secretary of the club
This was 2000 points against Michael's Space Marines. Usually in an SM-SM game, there's only a little action because of everyone's 4/4/4/4 statline. Sadly for Michael, it wasn't like this tonight.
Turn 1 he fired and missed with everything. My own shooting was a thing to behold - my Predator killed his Predator, my Vindicator killed a whole scout squad, my DP Ironclad blew up his Land Raider and my Whirlwind killed most of a tactical squad.
Turn 2 and he killed one tactical marine of mine and only that one. He was in a mess now because both DP dreads were down and he needed to get away from them but the only place he had to go was towards my gunline - so he did. This time the two Deathwind ML's fired and killed most of two tactical squads - I don't think I've seen so many 1's and 2's. The two dreads killed off a Rhino and then massacred the inhabitants - not one of his HtH attacks hit anything! My Speeders picked off another scout squad and the Whirlwind killed off the rest of the tactical squad that it hit last turn. His only hope was that he still had two 5-man squads of terminators to come.
Turn 3 and both his terminator squads came in by Deep Strike. In an last-ditch gamble, he put both very close to my gunline and neither scattered so they all survived. He could take out both tactical squads with firepower and then get into my tanks next turn. Instead of shooting, he chose to run at the vehicles in my gunline, despite me reminding him that he could not assault this turn. He was OK with that so he went ahead. Apart from my Whirlwind which was inside it's minimal range, my entire army turned and fired on those terminators. It took two tactical squads, the Predator and the Speeders but they died to a man. By this point, he looked over the table and saw that he had lost almost his entire army bar two very under-strength tactical squads and one Rhino whilst my entire army was on the table bar one tactical marine. He conceded.
Result: Win to me by two objectives to nil but there was no joy in this because he'd had a thoroughly miserable night. I offered to swap dice with him but he smiled and shook his head ruefully, "I wouldn't wish my dice on anyone!"
My W-L-D record:
40K: 36-14-1
Apocalypse: 2-0-1
Planetstrike: 0-1-0
