Now someone hit top gear - and South Korea copped it sadly with Argentina thumping them 4-1. Higuain scored the first hat-trick of the tournament but all but his first goal were easy tap-ins. Messi was strangely subdued for most of the first half but picked up the pace in the second and really pulled the Koreans apart. Carlos Tevez was also influential as was substitute Sergio Aguero, both with some very penetrating passing and running through the middle of the field.
Both teams can take credit for making this an exciting game - the Argentinians for recovering from the surprise Korean goal by not shutting up shop but instead by opening up the game even further and the South Koreans for never ever stopping or running.
It made for an exciting and enthralling spectacle right to the last moment. Argentina are the first team through to the second round and they look like they are in good form.
