To be honest, the only reason I went to this movie was because I wanted to find somewhere with air conditioning for a couple of hours. Turns out this was a movie worth seeing.

First look at watch - about an hour and ten minutes in - not bad for a children's movie

This movie had enough levels of humour to keep children (Roddy's "descent"into the sewers) and adults (a cockroach reading Kafka's Metamorphosis amused alike. The story was simple - a spoiled and wealthy (but lonely) pet mouse gets flushed into the sewers where he discovers a whole new vibrant underworld. He immediately falls foul of the local villains and then spends the rest of the movie evading them with Rita, a sewer-wise mouse who shows him the ways of the sewers. Of course, it is also a journey of mutual discovery and they fall in love. Along the way, they save the sewers from the evil Toad whilst avoiding his henchmen.

What that description doesn't get is that this was a story with pace and direction, mixed with plenty of action. Funny vignettes (like Le Frog's henchman Marcel "miming" Toad's phone call) were frequent enough that the laughter kept coming throughout. In short, an entertaining film and mercifully cool (the theater, that is, not the movie although, upon reflection, that was cool too!)
