First night of Genghis Con

catalyst2Just got back to the hotel after the first night's goings on at Genghis Con. Spent a couple of hours making a Gnerf rocket launcher (which was surprisingly similar in performance to the commercial ones) with Darren. The inner geek in me became the outer one as I couldn't resist trying to work out the parameters for a successful rocket - the launchers seemed to be near-identical in performance to the commercial ones. Experimented with length of rocket, fin size, profile and position along with weight of rocket. Little difference - it seemed to be plain and simple weight that was the only factor and we couldn't reduce the weight of ours any more. However, with the curved fins that we tried we did get a rifling effect that made our shots much less susceptible to wind shear. Less range but more accurate. Wez, your endless patience in repeating the instructions a dozen times to me was greatly appreciated.

Shot up the road to Hot Box and grabbed a very nice nasi goreng, a little heavy on the coriander but hot and plentiful (and less than $10).
Returned to more manufacturing - foam rubber weapons for the combat LARP tomorrow. I went for the basic one-sided sword, average length, handle with no guard (mainly because it was so late by this point that I just couldn't be arsed to add one). I made a surprisingly functional sword - nothing fancy but then you got no points for prettiness!
Got back to a fairly warm and stuffy room at the hotel but discovered that it had a very effective air conditioning unit which cooled the room in minutes.
