Tonight was 1250 points vs Zeke's Space Wolves. It was Pitched Battle deployment with Capture and Control mission.

It's a fairly brief report as it's just too damned hot to get too enthusiastic about anything.

First turn - his Dread DP'ed in, did nothing and got immobilised. The rest of his army started to march towards me, being a CC army in the main. My Predator killed his Whirlwind and My Ironclad DP'ed in, hit one squad with his HF/meltagun and killing four Blood Claws.

Second turn - he kept marching towards me but was still out of charge range. The Predator killed three Wolf Guard (out of 5) so they broke and ran. The two tactical squads in the center opened up on the other Wolf Guard squad and killed two, this unit also breaking and running. The Ironclad assaulted the large Blood claw unit, killing another four but they held.

Third turn - he tried to slog over again and I killed two in each of his Wolf Guard squads. I killed off a small Blood claw unit with a combination of Whirlwind and HB/AC Speeder, breaking it and running it straight off the table edge. I killed both his Dread and its DP with meltaguns this turn. The Ironclad killed another three. He ran a small unit of Blood Claws over to his objective.

Fourth turn - his scouts came on and killed my Speeder, my first unit loss of the game. My shotgun scouts came on behind him and promptly killed all five. I killed the last of the Wolf Guard on the left but the central one got to my line at last, with just two TH/SS figures left. I killed one in his turn but he killed three in my squad. We passed the leadership test. The Ironclad killed another three Blood claws. In my turn, the Ironclad killed a further two Blood Claws. The lone Wolf Guard killed another two marines and then passed 6 invulnerable saves from the combined sergeant/Captain PF attacks. We passed the leadership test.

Fifth turn - the Ironclad finally broke the Blood Claws who ran straight off the table edge when they failed their leadership test. The Ironclad moved straight towards the objective about nine inches away. In my centre, the lone TH/SS Wolf Guard passed another three invulnerable saves and killed another marine. In my turn the Ironclad reduced the squad on his objective to two but, more importantly, now contested that objective. Right now, I was winning, one objective to nil with two contested. We rolled for next turn and got 6 so on we went.

Sixth turn - the Ironclad cleared off his objective so that was no longer contested and I finally killed that lone Wolf Guard in my centre but not before he killed one more marine. He actually managed to pass three more invulnerable saves (that was 12 consecutive Invulnerable saves he passed!) only to fail two ordinary armour saves! This meant that I now held two objectives. When I looked up, I realised that all he had were three scouts floating around in No Man's Land.

Final Result - win to me by two objectives to nil.

What I learned tonight:
1) If I can keep Space Wolves out of my line, it's not too bad but
2) If even one gets in the line (witness that solitary TH/SS Wolf Guard), it's whole different question!
3) I feel like I'm getting the hang of this list - it's my tournament list and even though it's a bit of a stand-and-wait list, it's done well in the last three games. I have thought about dropping one tactical squad and taking two more HB/AC Speeders and a Rhino but I'll stick with the list as is for now.

My W-L-D record:
40K: 30-8-0
Apocalypse: 2-0-1
Planetstrike: 0-1-0
