2009 Skulls 40K Tournament Day Two
Mar. 2nd, 2009 11:34 pmAnother fun day with so many battles it made my head swirl - I worked out that I had seen 102 games (2days x 3rounds x 17 tables) in the last two days. No wonder I am so tired! I did enjoy myself again and the overall experience (venue, company, gaming "spirit" and food) was one I would do again - just not tomorrow because my back has yet to recover from all of today's standing and bending! Sorry for any crappy photos, btw!
Two very nice pieces of scenery:
Don't know what this was the spinal cord of but it was about 3 Land Raiders long so in the scale of the game that was ..... umm .... really big?

A slug monster gets caught in a portal:

The seven armies in contention for best painted:
Ben Gomm's nidzillas

A couple of nice figures - I particularly liked the basing and the work on the carapaces

Matthew Overton's very nicely "feathered" 'nids:

Very nice 'fex and warriors

Equally nice flyrant

Neil Stoney's Orks: So very very many models - I couldn't get them in one shot!

Exquisitely detailed deff kopta - I love the wiring on the power claw

Another finely detailed model, this time of his war boss - got to love his purple squig

Matt Benson Parry's Orks - the number of conversions in here was amazing and the attention to detail was impressive:

Carrying spares

Oh you gits are so flash (or should that be "Oh you nobz are so mega?")!

Brad Warnock's Reavers-themed Orks: an army with a theme and consistency in its look

Objective markers

I loved the runtherd's squig

Close-up of the battlewagon

Jonathan Van Butzelaar's Dark Eldar - very eye-catching and consistent colour scheme

Details on the figures - these are particularly bad photos that really don't capture the beautiful paintwork and detailing on these figures

Rob Lyons' Nurgle-themed Chaos Space Marines

Very nice work on the obliterators - you can almost feel diseases oozing into your pores

Extremely nice work on the Dreadnought - he also has a Greater Demon of Nurgle (which wasn't at this tournament, sadly) which has to be seen to be believed. I feel nauseous just looking at it!

Results:
Best Painting was Matthew Overton's "feathered" 'nids, also winning Best Sportsmanship.
Unlucky Monkey - most unlucky player of the tournament - was Thomas Foo, whose White Scars biker army lost so many difficult terrain tests that that was very nearly the major source of casualties for his army.
Best generalship and Overall best player across all categories was Rob Lyons and his Chaos Space Marines.
What I did notice, for my own potential use, was the Drop Pod Forests - two armies of nothing but drop pods - both with 9 or ten pods, both with Masters of the Forge and both with 5 or 6 Dreadnoughts as a result. Food for thought, definitely!
