So very cool!

I've seen the shorts for Watchmen six or seven times over the last 24 hours. It looks so very cool - but (and this is a big but) if I didn't already know the story, I wouldn't have a clue what was happening from those shorts. It looks all very film noir/superheroes in tights, all very moody and dark. I suppose they may be going for the TDK vibe, perhaps?

I think this is the problem their having to face. From a marketing/advertising point of view all these commercials and tv spots aren't really explaining what the movie's about. Sure everything looks really pretty and I love the graphic design of the posters and billboards I've seen around town, but I wonder how none comic fans view the marketing campaign.

TDK had the fact that it was Batman and everyone knew the basic story of the Batman and the Joker so even if you'd never read a comic book in your life you knew what you were getting into.

You're spot on there - there's no public hook to this movie and then when you try to explain what Watchmen is about, it doesn't come over well in a 30-second or 1 minute sound bite.
