This was 1500 points vs the Tau of a very experienced player. There were 5 objectives on the table which we needed to control. I decided early on that two were so close to his lines that it was a waste of time pursuing those so I would go for the two nearest me and then contest the third.
I started well and made an embarrassing number of saving rolls but then that changed and his Tau fire team somehow became immortal. At one stage, I calculated that they had had 47 hits for 15 wounds and only 4 casualties. Damn it! I did make some tactical blunders for sure and lost one tactical squad to some whithering cross-fire that I didn't notice.
In addition, my scouts and bike squad got tangled up with his Kroot for three turns. Both "supporting" dreadnoughts managed to get themselves stunned so they couldn't help either. Eventually the Dreadnoughts got moving again and sorted the Kroot out but it was too late. The game finished with my opponent with one objective in his possession and me with my scouts 4 inches away from mine (3 inches was the condition of holding it).
Result: Loss by 1 objective to zero.
I learned a whole heap about Tau and about use of cover. I enjoyed the game tremendously. Thanks Darryl!
