Just watched Dexter S111. Could that ep have ended at a more tense point? Wonderful, wonderful work again.

So much happened that I am not sure where to start. Biggest of all, Rudy proposed to Deb and all is OK ..... well, there may just be a *slight* hitch in the wedding arrangements!

If this whole ITK thing doesn't work out for Rudy, he should get a job wrapping Xmas presents at the local mall - he ties such nice bows and even wraps very awkwardly shaped presents without ripping the wrapping paper. Such a tidy monster man!

Poor Deb - such excitement at the good news and then so wrong so fast. The sheer ecstasy that she showed when she "worked out" that Rudy was going to propose, with us knowing how hollow that joy was... Also, how tacky was it of Rudy to use the one-handed hooker's ring to propose though? Does that man have no sense of decency? Wait a minute ......

LaGuerta got done over so thoroughly by Matthews - how will she pull this one out? Get ITK maybe? It would certainly tie in well with the climactic nature of the ep next week. If it is anything like the book, though .....

And Angel - I get more interested by the guy every week. His assumption that Nina visiting him on his (almost) deathbed meant they were back together was so well done. I could him deflating even as Nina explained to him what this really meant.

Haven't heard much from Vince the last few weeks but I did like these two gems:

Deb: Another hooker?
Vince: Ho, ho, ho. Another dead ho!

and

Vince: Hey Morgan, want to sit on my lap when we're done and tell me what you want for Christmas?
Deb: And he's back. No thanks. Last thing on my wish list is a burning sensation when I pee!

The whole "bitching elves" routine was funny too.

Rita? Rita gets stronger by the day, not only with Paul but now also willing to argue with Dexter. The playground swing scene was great - as strong as she has started to become, Rita was still deferring to Dexter almost every time. This time she was willing to argue with him. As is happens, he was right and she did follow his suggestion. The scene with Cody and Astor swarming over Paul his prison oranges and manacles was another beauty.

And Dexter - what can I say about all of this? He was just all over the place, spacing out, not being "normal" and really struggling with those resurfacing memories. In the really long flashback, the one where he looks down at the pool of Angel's blood in the basement car park, there was quite a lot of detail in those moments but I didn't catch all of them. Anybody see what was in that? Any clues to the chainsaw killer's identity? I still think it could be Dexter's biodad which would explain why Harry kept him way from Dexter. But then why would Harry destroy the whole file (if the archive woman is telling the truth, that is)? Something in that scene outside of Dexter and his mum being there is important. I know what the book says, but I am not assuming it is going to be the same here.

Dexter's final discovery of 103's significance was interesting. If he has got the connection right (and I think it is *extremely* likely he has), then clearly Rudy already knew about Dexter and his mum's death, ceratinly more than anything Dexter knew at any rate.

I did see a trailer for next week and there was a sea container involved, just like the book - if this ends the way the book does, this will be coooooooooooooooool! (and there is a pun in there for the observant!)

Rudy has definitley got creepier by the moment - but also notice how his risk taking has got greater stabbing Angel, seizing Deb etc.

Sadly, I want Sunday to come soon - but also not, because that will be the last we see of Dexter until Sept 2007. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

The Dark Passenger shout out (at last!) was great.

Minor spoilers for Darkly Dreaming Dexter follow:

In the book ,the Dark Passenger is quite a large element. Dexter doesn't recognise serial killers, his Dark Passenger recognises itself in others, a subtle but significant difference. The other part is that Dexter refers to it almost as a separate entity so I did wonder for a while if The Tamiami Slasher (the book's ITK) was Dexter. Hell, even Dexter wonders for a long while, so much so that I wondered if Dexter had MPD (Multiple Personality Disorder) or some other severe dissociative disorder and "Dark Passenger" was the name he gave to another "self".

I pretty much knew all that about the books. There was also speculation on TWoP that maybe Dexter was the ITK, which in my opinion would still fit with the theme of the show (Dexter's self-discovery and channeling the beast within to do more good than evil), but then someone asked how, if Dexter was the ITK, he threw a head at himself while driving his car. Since I was one who was speculating, boy did I feel dumb.

Since we aren't going to get the Dark Passenger of the books, it's a nice shout-out and Dexter's VO about it was beautiful. Quite poetic. I just wanted to hold him. I think Dexy just needs some hot cocoa and a teddy bear and maybe he'll be ok. Poor guy.

Yeah but I have images of him torturing some poor serial killer (ummm..... moving right along) by dripping the hot cocoa into his eyes and stuffing the teddy bear into his mouth as a gag!

Sometimes I frighten me!
