See, I told you I would have to invent a superlative if Dexter got any better and, having watched S107, I can only say it did get even better-er-er-er!

Having seen Dexter in a complete flap in S106, it was interesting to see him back to more familiar ground. That said, is it just me or does he seem off his game still? I mean, a day light "hit" in a public place in front of crowds? What the hell was he thinking?

And I can say that I was right (and I don't get to say that too often) because, sure enough, there was the kid from S103 - Jeremy Downs - and he had killed again. Nice to see some writing that takes longer than 3 minutes to explore the consequences of decisions made earlier.

What did I like here?

1. The "cryptozoology lesson" in the trailer - the look on various character's faces as the bizarre creatures were examined

2. Has Deb got her game together or what? She spotted the false back to the cupboard, got dinner out with Rudy (mind you, anybody on this programme with a nickname like Dr. Hook had got to make you stop and hesitate!)

3. Paul is an ass - and I think Dexter is going to do something about that really soon! Mind you, he can't violate the Code of Harry to do that so maybe it won't be lethal just painful!

4. How big was that grin on Dexter's face when Perry said "Who the fuck are you?"

5. When Dexter talked about serial killers not getting together at conferences, I couldn't help but flash back to the "Cereal Convention" - Sandman fans will get that one!

6. Dexter's speech to Jeremy in the interrogation room - "I'm empty. But I found a way to make it less bottomless. Pretend. You pretend the feelings are there, for the world. For the people around you. Who knows, maybe one day they will be?" Perhaps prescient words for Dexter himself - I do think that Dexter has been showing a wider range of emotions as time has gone on so perhaps that will be something that will continue to be explored

7. Jeremy's end - not what I expected but it made sense in the context of Harry rescuing Dexter before he became completely empty but Dexter not getting to Jeremy until too late.

8. "He's been hanging out with the Brokeback boys"

9. Even though Perry turned out not to be ITK (although at this point only Dexter knows that), how did all that evidence get there? Sure, the files could have been a plant but the body, under the slab for 2-3 years, didn't Masuoka say? Either Perry has more to do with this than we think or he has been framed by a master - but how would he set this up that many years in advance?

10. How creepy was that motel scene too - Perry was going to kill her right and not just get his rocks off by torturing her? Or did ITK set that up too? Also what was the song he started singing when he was arrested? Some kind of hymn, was it?

11. How good is Julie Benz? I think I say this for every ep but she is on! I love the strength she is finding in herself, growing every week.

12. For a few heart-pounding moments, I thought Dexter was going to tell Rita that he did hurt people (the conversation on the couch) but he pulled back at the last moment. That will bear watching, I think!

Now, what I didn't like?

The ITK and Perry weren't working together. The ITK didn't set Perry up. Perry was a computer geek, and he had hacked into their computer system and took the photos. He was apparently fascinated by the ITK because he got so much publicity. He wanted to be the ITK.

They said his mother had probably died of natural causes and he must have chopped off her leg after she died.

You can read my thoughts on this episode here.

*palmhead*

Never even thought of that possibility! In some ways that makes Perry sicker than ITK - wanting to be like him? At least ITK is driven to it, probably out of his control! So scene in the motel room - was that Perry trying to be ITK for the first time?

Well, he was taking hookers to a hotel, so he was probably working up to that for a while. Watch the episode again, it's all there. You probably missed it.
