Having seen Clerks and Clerks 2 recently, it made sense to see this movie as well. Despite concerns how two one-joke characters could carry a whole movie, I was impressed by this movie because it *knew* that they were one-joke characters and then turned in 80 variations of the joke. Offensive, repetitive, politically incorrect and very very funny was the nett result.
First check of the watch - what fucking watch?
Essentially a road movie, this movie has enough jokes to carry that conventional plot well. Jason Mewes as Jay just steals this movie - his offensive rantings are just a work of art in themselves and then Silent Bob's dismissal of a five-minute rant with a single gesture just caps it all off beautifully. Yes, the humour is often juvenile but it is very well done and in character for Jay.
Some notable moments for me are the fourth wall breakouts:
- Jay and Silent Bob look at the audience as they ask "Who would pay to see a Jay and Silent Bob movie?"
- Ben Affleck (as himself) also looking at the audience as he says "One reason you do a picture is because you owe a friend a favor."
- Mark Hammill gets his hand chopped off after a light-sabre battle and says "Not Again!" as he looks directly at us and finally
- as the Bluntman and Chronic movie shows, someone says "Well, it was better than Mallrats!"
The obligatory Jossverse connection is Eliza Dushku as Sissy, a tough-as-nails jewel thief who takes a near-instant dislike to Jay, in particular.
Fucking funny movie!
