I found myself surprisingly fascinated by this movie. Strangely enough, given my obsession with BtVS, the vampire horror is not a genre of movie that I watch often, mainly because so many are so bad. This one started off exactly as I had dreaded, with a naked blond woman "sensuously" washing blood off her mandatory issue pneumatic breasts. I was bored but then the real movie kicked in and I enjoyed most of the rest.

First check of the watch - watch? what watch?

As chases go, this was pretty suspenseful with enough near-misses and temporary victories that I cared about the fate of the three protagonists - Sean, Nick and Megan. The villain - Kit - was a perfect mix of bluster and menace, coupled with moments of intense violence.

There was, of course, the obligatory Jossverse connection - Phina Oruche, Giles' groin buddy from BtVS.

One thing that threw me was how the vampires "poof" in the sunlight. This is no gentle dusting, rather it is one enormous destructive explosion. The scale of the explosion is something to see!

I also liked the attempt to re-write the history of vampires, tracing them back to a deal done with the Devil by some dying French knights at the Siege of Antioch in 1097-98.

Overall, a B-movie with some obligatory horror elements but with enough style to become its own version. I enjoyed it - and I liked the open ending. Sequel, anyone?
