Just watched Dexter S1e4 and all is well again. I think though that the world's most dangerous breakfast squicks me out more and more every time I see it. I can't do the non-spoilery thing so the rest of my comments are behind the cut WITH SERIOUS SPOILERS

It was so good to see someone get Dexter exactly right again - not just close but exactly! Drew Z. Greenberg got him so much into character that I loved this episode all over again. One thing that had worried me over the last three eps was that if they had Dexter
A) work on the latest ITK scene
B) kill someone
C) solve this week's random crime and
D) get yelled at by Doakes
that the whole thing would descend into some formulaic bore 'n' snore fest. Instead, we got more development of all kinds of characters than we have since S1e1.

Angel-no-relation's little vignette (can you have anything but a little vignette? Whoops, back to topic!) was heart breaking. LaGuerta got the put-down in no uncertain terms from the Captain. Doakes nearly got done for good - but those 3-4 cops who used him as bait will never forgive him, I feel. Dexter and Rita, well, what can you say?

Some other thoughts - Tony Tucci with the various bits being sawn sawed sawded cut off - maybe this season will combine elements of both books?
The dog barking next door - I though it was going to be like the book but instead Rita did the good deed (and a *real* good deed) and found the dog a new home. Perhaps the version that was in the book was considered just too disturbing for TV - although I would love to see that whole thing develop here too? It gave Dexter such a new perspective on things in the books.

I also got some good advice - let TV Dexter be TV Dexter and don't try to see Book Dexter in this. Thanks [livejournal.com profile] electrcspacegrl, that has made my viewing of Dexter much more relaxed - until that damn breakfast appears again, that is!

Yeah, that spray of blood sauce and the creepy sound as the flesh is slashed ham is cut is especially unnerving. I think that's why the sheer pleasure on Dexter's face as he enjoys dismembering the body eating the toast is so unsettling!
