Just got back from trying to help a friend get her car started. We did all the usual things to no avail. Then I looked down at the engine and thought I could see something dripping. In order to get a better view with the torch, I moved a drive belt about 5mm to the right. As I did so, there was a very loud CLANG! and a large metal thingee towards the bottom of the engine fell off, getting stuck so far down that I couldn't reach it from the top or from underneath.

Now, I will freely admit that I know almost nothing about cars (as if the above description didn't give you a clue of that already!) but I am almost 100% certain that when big pieces of metal fall off the engine, it's not a good sign. Needless to say, I ended up giving my friend as lift home. The car will have to wait until tomorrow.

I just watched the first chapter of the Watchmen Motion comic - an animated version of the Watchmen graphic novel - courtesy of a friend who downloaded it from iTunes and brought it over for me to watch.

Overall, I think it's really good - it certainly seems to catch the feeling of the first pages of the GN. They did it without trying to get the animation too sophisticated so it was still focused on the story and look of the book.

The only things that didn't really work for me were two of the voices:
- I always pictured Rorschach's as quite a lot flatter and somewhat whiny not so much insightful as here and
- Laurie Juspeczyk's voice didn't work at all, just wrong.

Those two points aside, I really liked this and look forward to the next installment. I also noticed, sadly, that Alan Moore's name is removed from every aspect of the chapter, just as he insisted on.

As the first product of the whole Warner's enterprise for Watchmen, this was a good start.
