Mmmmm ..... burgers

Working away at my desk today and one of the chefs from downstairs asks if anyone wanted to try some free food for lunch. My hand was up before I knew I had hands! The only catch was that, because the class was finishing at 1pm, the food would be served at 11am (to give the students enough time to clean up and everything). Sure enough at 11 on the dot, out comes my free meal - hamburger, fries and a green salad but what a burger and what chips! The burger was on wholemeal bun and rare and juicy. The chips were crispy, but not crunchy. There was a sauce on them which I thought was ordinary tomato but it turned out to be a home-made one with tomato and red capsicum ( and was just perfect). The salad was a very simple one but wonderfully fresh and crunchy. When the students came to collect the plates, I told them, in no uncertain terms that the food was just delicious. They were so embarrassed but they need not have been because it was true.

In short, the best lunch I have had for ages and *free*!

300's opening

It looks like 300 has opened well - US$70 million for it opening weekend in the US, the highest opening ever for a March release according to SCI FI Wire. Still not sure when the Australian release is but it will be soon, I would imagine.

Frank Miller is certainly happy with the movie even if the reviewer for the same site (Moviehole) really didn't like the movie! It was interesting to hear that Miller's next movie project is Sin City 2 and that Zach Snyder's next movie is Watchmen! Poor bastard (Snyder, that is) - no matter what he does, he is damned. Alan Moore probably hates it already and there is no way the richness of the full Watchmen story can fit into one 2-hour movie so he's going to have to hack and slash his way through a lot of favourite moments. My first guess - the pirate story-within-a-story bit will bite the dust almost immediately.
