Just finished reading the first TPB in
this series - Unmanned. Brian K Vaughan created a great post-apocalyptic survivor's tale (having been to see Children of Men last night, it was interesting to compare the two visions) that I really enjoyed. The story is told via multiple overlapping timetables and characters. I love the transitions into the "Now" panel that happen - it really pulls me into the story. The central character (the "Y" of the title - Yorick) is likeable enough that I can bear to see the story from his point of view and his humour is frequent enough that it lightens an otherwise bleak tale into an enjoyable story. The other characters are good - 355, Hero, Dr Mann - so that other dimensions of the story can be explored. I know this is not a new series but I am excited enough by it that I will be off looking to pick up the other TPB's that are out.
Just as a bonus, I found
the first issue available (quite legally) as a free .pdf download.
