Maven

... and industry mavens will be meeting in boardrooms all around the nation, anxiously anticipating fluctuations ...."

As I read this sentence in some dreary book this morning, my mind wandered .....

It is a boardroom, a carpet so lush that last year's work experience kid is still lost in the pile. In the centre is a teak table so large that not one but two 3rd world countries sacrificed their entire rain forest to make it. Around the table, the chairs made from hand-tooled Okapi leather are all filled with anonymous cloned suits, mind numbing in their platitudes. All of them except one that is - for he is the MAVEN. Tall, powerful and not a little intimidating, with a long beak, glossy black feathers covering his broad frame, he strides to the front of the room. Quoth the maven, "Evermore!"

Any way, that's what my mind did - it's a funny thing is the mind.

Just a random thought

The label reads "Size 12, Bust-95cm, Waist-75cm, Hips-100cm" which is not unusual until I think about the fact that this label is on a pair of women's trousers.

Why do you need bust size on trousers for goodness sake - unless this manufacturer knows something about women's anatomy that I don't? Men's trousers don't have chest size on them!

Thank God You're Here

I feel kind of dirty pimping an unscripted TV programme but Thank God You're Here can be very funny at times. The current sketch that is available is Cal Wilson doing a fine Miss Caicos impression, including the immortal lines
Beauty Contest Judge: If you could get rid of only one thing in the world, what would it be?
Miss Caicos: It would be .... (pointing) Miss China!

I thought Tony Martin's superhero sketch (including his arch nemesis "Barry") was the funniest this week. Generally, most of the sketches are fairly good, with only the occasional miss (like Anthony Field - the blue Wiggle). Most people seem to really go for it, resulting in a very very funny programme (if you can just ignore the host, Shane Bourne, who is truly one of the least funny people currently alive - in fact, I think there are a couple of dead people who are funnier than him!). It has been don't-miss TV for me for a while now!
