Mmmmm .... pretentious wanker food
Nov. 9th, 2006 10:38 pmWent out for dinner last night at a new restaurant that is getting good comments all around the place - Scusi, just over the old bridge in Mandurah.
Don't make the mistake of thinking it was a bad meal from the post title - it is just a novelty for me to eat at a place where the waiter can say something other than a loud and disgruntled "WOT?" in response to any questions. On the contrary, this was a smooth operation on all sides - unobtrusive service, good food and a quiet atmosphere. I had the linguine with chicken and spring vegetables in cream and white wine sauce - all very refined and delicate, topped with Italian parsley and served in a small bowl on a big plate, all clean and antiseptic white. Hell, there were even napkins - and NOT paper ones at that! All very unfamiliar ground for me!
Very nice - but I always feel a bit uncomfortable in place like that. Give me my crude, rude peasant food with thumping flavours and snarling, bitching waiters any time, where the only place you are going to wipe your mouth is on your sleeve!
Still, pleasant night out, all in all.
