AXM 3: Torn TPB

catalyst2I loved the first two TPB's in this series and so bought this one with great anticipation. Just for once, I didn't like Joss' writing very much
I read it a second time and it was OK, a third and it was good, a fourth and it was great, a fifth and ..... well you get the idea. This just grew on me every time I read it.
There are the obvious moments - Kitty phasing at a most inconvenient moment in bed, Wolverine with his cutout dolls, Beast with his ball of wool, Wolverine with his can of beer and so on. All classic Joss moments and damned good ones at that but the overall story didn't seem so good at first.
On subsequent re-reads, I picked up more each time until I realised just what a rich and subtle tale was in this. And then I saw more moments - Emma in diamond mode with the tear coursing down her cheek, Hisako in armoured action and then in *really* armoured action, Sebastian Shaw's response to Colossus' attack and so on. The added dimensions to the story just opened up for me.
And what did we end with? Every one of the core 6 have been torn open, faced, survived and overcome something they thought they never could - and then they get zapped away. Damn but there had better be some payoff to that ending! What am I saying? It's Joss - he never does those things without a pay-off!
And Lockheed's the mole? Lock-frakking-heed? *That* better pay off too!
