I have such a quick gag reflex that sometimes I choke on my own saliva so I don't think I'd be able to swallow a toothbrush. But because I choke so easily, this story makes me very squeamish. Now I'm going to be scared to brush my teeth tonight! :(
Hey, I have one of those hyper-sensitive gag reflexes too, It such fun when I go to the dentist. He has this nurse who is wonderful other than she is too gentle so when I start to heave, she backs off. I always have to tell her to get in there, do it and ignore the me otherwise she will never get it done! Having an oral dam put for my last fillings in was a nightmare because she kept letting the tip of the sheet brush lightly against my tongue. She would stop and ask if it hurt - that wasn't the issue and I am not sure that she ever *got* it.
Exactly, catalyst2, that's why the dam is the thing I most dislike about dentist visits (other than needles!) When my dentist took out my wisdom tooth on the top right side, he gave me a palate relaxant and I felt as if something was covering my esophagus and windpipe. Needless to say, when he pulled the one on the other side a few days later, he just gave me extra freezing instead. :D
I'm sure you'll be pleased to know that I was able to brush my teeth successfully without any hint of swallowing my toothbrush!
