Went back to the dentist today,

partially to see if the top two teeth he filled last month had split - he was concerned last time that there appeared to be fractures in the enamel and he wasn't sure if they were superficial or structural *gulp*. All good news - the teeth were fine. He also did a thorough clean and desensitization of all the teeth as well. He couldn't believe how clean my teeth were, considering they hadn't been cleaned in 26 years (by a dentist, that is - I clean them often!)

I have to say that the gunk he used to do the desensitization was the bitterest thing I have ever tasted but it was a lot less painful than I though it would be. The last time I had them cleaned (1981 *ahem*), it was a fairly rough process with the dentist ripping excess tartar and calcification off with what looked like a miniature billhook. Now, it's all water pick and light hardened cement and all very high-tech. What I did do this time, which I was very glad I did, was to ask for a neck cushion so he didn't put my neck out (displaced C3/4 that I have had for years!) like he did last time.

So, the teeth feel better and my neck is pain-free. The only pain was in the $176 extraction from my wallet! I have a white smile again - he might not have seen much difference but I sure did. I thought I might walk around all day with a broad smile so everybody could see but I think it would confuse them all because they wouldn't recognise me without my perpetual scowl/puzzled frown!

Did you have the ultrasonic water clean? Other than the fact that I end up with water all over my face, it's an okay way to clean teeth.

I'm glad the news was good and it doesn't sound as if you need crowns.

Ah, "ultrasonic water clean" - that's what he called it. He said it 3 or 4 times and I missed it every time and then I was too embarrased to ask!

He said the crowns were a few years away yet and, in the meantime, he could do a composite (or was it compound?) filling. Sounded OK to me!
