Inspired by [livejournal.com profile] quarterturn's M&M Wars, I bring you "The Battle of the Buttons" (largely because there were no M&M's at home!).

This skirmish takes place early in the conflict and involves a small number of units. Accompanied by his elite Harlequin bodyguard and two units of regular infantry, Emperor GreenFrog the First requested treaty talks with the Dread RedSnake Warlord. As the noble Emperor approached the parley grounds, treachery most vile occurred and the small force was attacked by two large units of the Warlord's light cavalry.

Not dismayed by the approaching forces, the superior discipline of the Emperor's forces meant they were able to move into positions that took advantage of their inferior mobility whilst maximising their defensive strength.

Bolstered by the presence of their beloved Emperor, the Harlequins undertook a holding action against a numerically superior force whilst waiting for the slower moving infantry to reinforce their line. The Redsnake Warlord concentrated on the other flank, expecting his cavalry to overwhelm the Harlequins rapidly.

Not only did the harlequins hold, but they also manged to inflict light casualties on the opposing unit. More damaging though were the catastrophic casualties that the other cavalry unit received at the hands of the the regular infantry. So severe were these casualties (40%) that not even the Emperor's presence could stop the unit from breaking.

More to follow in tomorrow's thrilling conclusion to the battle.

And don't bother with the abuse:
a) I know I have no life
b) I know that I got a little carried away but the combat system was fairly simple (and used one d10 only - and yes, you may notice that it is a d12 in a later photo) and
c) yes, large numbers of chocolate buttons *really* died during this battle - get over it!
