We went down to the beach at Halls Head to look for Comet C/2006 P1 (better known as the McNaught Comet). There were dozens and dozens of people there despite the cold wind. After the debacles with Halley's comet and the Hale-Bop comet where I saw absolutely nothing, I was not hoping for much. Instead, spawn#2 spotted it at about 8:50pm, clear as anything. Quite amazing thing to see - brilliant white colour (don't know why but I expected more yellow or red to it?) and a beautiful white tail flaring out behind it. As it got darker (we stayed until about 9:15pm), the tail got got longer and whiter and was really something to see. I'm all hyped up now!
