Whoops, forgot the battle report for Monday

Tonight was 1500 points against Dave's Nids. I was using and army close to my tournament army so I was interested to see how it would go. It was Dawn of War deployment with Capture and Control mission. I always dread Dawn of War with 'Nids because they can be in my line by turn two if they deploy as far forwards as they can but Dave deployed well back with almost a "gunline" mentality. This was a Cities of Death type of board because there were 12 ruins on it in two roughly parallel lines (like a city block).

Turn 1 - nothing much happened, largely because of the night fighting rules. The only exception was my DP Ironclad which dropped right next to a small gaunt squad and promptly fried it with his Heavy Flamer.

Turn 2 - he fired everything he could at the Dread but did nothing. He did however managed to kill two ripper swarms and the last two gaunts in the "fried" squad with three of his own scattered shots. The rippers attacked the dread, did nothing but I killed another base (only one left now). His genestealers came on from reserve right next to my gunline but decided to hide behind buildings rather than assault. My Predator Annihilator took three wounds off his 'fex on the right. The Whirlwind dropped a round blind on the genestealers and scored a direct hit, killing three. The Deathwind ML fired on another small gaunt squad taking it down to two. The Dread killed the last rippers. The central tactical squad fired on another small gaunt squad and killed six off.

Turn 3 - distances just didn't work out for him because only one small gaunt squad could get into assault. They killed two marines but the PF sergeant and the PF Captain killed five between them whilst the rest of the squad killed another two. They failed all of their Fearless saves and so that squad died. I consolidated backwards to stay away from the genestealers and shifted another tactical squad across for additional firepower. The Whirlwind/Deathwind combo killed off almost all of another gaunt squad, whilst the Predator took three wounds off the 'fex on the left. The central tactical squad came into their own here, being up on the top of a ruin because they could shoot at almost anything - and swung right, reducing the genestealers down to 1 (with Broodlord).

Turn 4 - quite rain of fire came down on me this turn, immobilising the dread and killing a few marines but otherwise not much damage. The 'stealers got into my line and got to the tactical squad with the captain attached. The Broodlord and 'stealer killed all but three in the squad and my resulting attacks killed the last 'stealer and the Broodlord down to one wound. The Predator killed off the 'fex on the left whilst the Whirlwind/Deathwind killed of the remnants of the squad they hit last turn. My scouts came on and made a run for cover, intending to charge his objective next turn. My Land Speeder (which had done nothing all game turboboosted close to his objective, giving him the difficult choice of two targets next turn to prevent his own objective being contested.

Turn 5 - the Dread finally died to the concerted fire of three zoanthropes, my first unit loss of the game. The Broodlord killed the remaining sergeant resulting in my second unit loss but the Captain held firm. In anticipation of a sixth turn, he started to move his warriors forward. I killed the 'fex on the right with the Predator. The central tactical squad could just see the Warriors so it fired on them, killing one and wounding another. The Whirlwind dropped a round on the warriors and killed another one. The Captain and Broodlord again clashed and again did no damage to each other. The scouts moved forward and opened up on his last remaining gaunts on his objective. The Speeder did the same but at the end, there were still two gaunts alive so that objective was contested whilst mine was ..... oh crap, in removing a casualty last turn, I had left the squad 3 1/2 inches away from the objective. We rolled for another turn but the game ended there.

Result, win to me by 7-2 KP,with 0-0 objectives each. Games with Dave are always close-run things and this was no exception. My error on my objective was so stupid that it stunned both of us! It's a long time since I have made a mistake as basic as that one!

What I learned tonight:
1) I like this army and am strongly leaning towards it for the tournament.
2) my target prioritisation was really good tonight - with the exception of one squad of gaunts and the Broodlord and single 'stealer, nothing else even got to my line.
3) I always quote the "Eyes on the mission" line at others but forgot it here myself and it damn nearly cost me!

My W-L-D record:
40K: 29-8-0
Apocalypse: 2-0-1
Planetstrike: 0-1-0
