Getting dark and quieter, I think

(Don't be alarmed, all part of this).
Just chaos today. The street stayed quiet today and we thought we could just keep our heads down - until we got the call from the Mother-in-law. She'd been ringing the Father-in-law at his workshop both on land line and mobile with no answer. I wouldn't have thought twice about but with all these freaks about .....
Anyway we piled into the Cruiser - I knew that stupid effing bull bar would come in handy one day! We got over to her place in record time, picked her up and then took off over to the workshop. We kept ring on the mobile on the way over but no answer, still. Workshop looked OK when we got there but when we knocked, no answer. M-i-l produced a key and we undid the shutter doors. There he is, listening to the fucking i-pod we gave him for Christmas at volume 10! He was utterly unaware of phone, mobile, us knocking or anything else.
Good anyway, except those freaks - can they really be zombies? ZOMBIES for fuck's sake! - started in down the alleyway. Just for once I have to say thank god for petty crime because this place has been knocked over so many times that it can be closed up tighter than a ...... really tight thing?
Any way, the steel shutter doors bolt from the inside - and they are designed to withstand a car at low speed so nothing's coming through there and all the windows are plexiglass with steel bars. Nothing's coming in there either - mind you we can't get out because, by now, there's dozens of the freaks outside.
And the the F-i-l surprises us all - apparently this shit happened about this time last year - except I can't remember that - and he's all prepared. He took us up to the loft office and he's got the place all set up - camp beds, newly installed toilet and shower and just to top it off, he's got about 20 boxes of MRE's.
Spent the rest of the afternoon up there - did I mention that he had the staircase there converted so the bottom ten feet or so swings up so it can't be reached from the ground? Well, he did. Those things just milled around pointlessly all day until it started to go dark. I'm not sure what's happening out there now but they seem to be slowing down - do they go torpid overnight or when it gets cold? I have no idea. Any way we are here, we are safe - although if I have to eat the chicken fajita MRE ever again, I might just go insane - and I'm posting on the "office" laptop.
Very quiet out - and little to no movement out there.
