Blow out in Vapour THREE
May. 18th, 2008 07:07 pmI went down to the football oval at 7am today (Sunday!) to help dig trenches for the conduits for the heavy cabling for the new floodlights we are installing at our own expense (AUS$35 000 just for the first two lights - we will eventually need six!). Anyway, we take 5 minutes to decide where to start and then I bend down to start digging.
R-I-I-I-I-P!
A tear the size of Kansas (the state, not the city) appears in the arse of my jeans, from the waistband down to the back of my right knee. Bits of my body that really should not get exposed to very cold morning air were suddenly experiencing instant air-conditioning! I had to stay digging (with aforementioned arse hanging out) for the rest of the day. Fortunately, it did warm up around 10am so that problem was resolved but then bits of my body that really should not get exposed to gritty grimy (and decidedly sharp) particles got far too much of that exposure. The digging job, which I thought was 7 am to 11 am turned out to be 7 am to 4 pm and I am now tired, sore and a little rubbed (if you know what I mean!)
The day was fun though and we got all the trenching done ready for installation on Wednesday when the 20m towers are sent down from Perth. Our utterly immature and inappropriate senses of humour were fired up for a very long time by our discovery of "pulling lubricant" which is used to stop friction building up when long lengths of cabling are pulled through conduits. Of course, we thought up very many alternative uses. Juvenile? Hell yes!
