As I was writing my comments about this episode, I was thinking that this episode was about emotional entanglements. One of the earlier episodes seemed to be about lust, I think S108, maybe?
I will definitely go back and look for those themes - I have very poor analytical skills though so often just miss stuff wholesale.! Even watching BtVS as many times as I have, I still have moments where I go "Ah, that's why Xander said...." or whatever.
