I'm sorry for your problem, but this post totally cracked me up and made me smile!
Sheets are such a tricky thing...I always hunt down the softest sheets but it seems I'm doomed to get sheets that create those little balls or "pills" no matter if I spend $20 or $200 on them. This though, is the funniest story I've heard! I love purple too, but....ouch.
Better wash them ALONE in hot water and maybe that will be the last of the color bleeding and perhaps soften them up a bit.
