Why do they do that?

Just watching some sports news, when the reporter says "If you don't want to know the results, look away now" and then the reporter proceeds to read those results out loud. I don't know about you, but looking away doesn't suddenly make me go deaf! I'm just glad it was some kind of motor racing result because I couldn't care less about that as a sport. If it had been something I wanted to watch later, I think I would have been fairly pissed off!
