I am a complete sucker for any type of post-apocalyptic fiction so I'm always on the look out for new ones (well, new to me, at any rate).

My new discovery is Kranburn - not only is it right in my favourite genre but it's Australian too! I like the story so far but I'm not quite so keen on the artwork. I look forward to seeing what this will develop into.

I think this may rank as the most disappointing game of the tournament to date - for two attacking teams like Brazil and Portugal to produce such a dreary event is a sad reflection of both teams' approach to this game - 0-0 about sums it up really. I shall waste no more words on this snooze fest!

Sadly, the game that had no bearing on the final standings (Cote d'Ivoire were never really going to put 9 unanswered goals past Korea DPR) produced by far the most exciting game on the night. Cote d'Ivoire really did try to put on the pressure but Korea DPR weren't going to melt-down so easily a second time. The 3 goals Cote d'Ivoire put past them were well done and the players tried to press forward at all times but Korea DPR had learned ts lesson from its previous game and kept well organized. In fact, given the pressure that Cote d'Ivoire put on them, they did very well to restrict them to just 3 goals. The Korean goalkeeper Ri Myong-Guk had a harrowing night, repeatedly injured saving shots and finished on one functional leg. I hope that when they go back home, their period of "compulsory re-education" isn't too long!

Sadly, both of these team failed to go through to the next round.

Spain may have beaten Chile 2-1 in this game but they are still far from their best, Torres in particular looking woeful most of the time, even getting into the "fake-a-catastrophic-injury-from-the-most-innocuous-tackle" club. Sad to see such a once great-striker grubbing around in that hole! Villa's goal was just sublime (after Torres had fluffed yet another chance), hit with such assurance and fluidity that it was never going to do anything but go in the net! The second Spanish goal was also sharp and it looked all over by then but the Chileans knew that they couldn't concede too many goals because it might come down to goal difference if Switzerland beat Honduras. The Chilean goal was good but Casillas never had a chance after that sharp deflection off the defender's leg.

Overall, a good game and both Spain and Chile (who looked so distraught at the end of the game until the other result came through) went through to the next round.

It's a shame that the last game of the group round was a 0-0 draw between Switzerland and Honduras but the result knocked both teams out of the tournament. Both teams could also be really disappointed with that result - the Swiss because they can play so much better than this and the Hondurans because they failed to capitalise on any of their many opportunities in front of goal.

Best Goal - Maicon's goal in Brazil's game against Korea DPR
Worst missed goal - Podolski's penalty miss for Germany against Serbia
Most sentimental goal - Beausejour's goal against Honduras ended Chile's 48 year drought
Funniest goal - Ronaldo's goal for Portugal against Korea DPR - even one of the supreme egotists of the current game had the decency to look embarrassed after this one
Outstanding player - no-one because there hasn't been any player who could show more than erratic flashes of brilliance
Most disappointing player - Wayne Rooney - in every game, in every way
Dullest game - Brazil vs Portugal (of all games!)
Most surprising - NZ vs Italy - for an utter minnow to hold out against a World Champion has to be a lasting memory
Flattest team - It's a close call between Italy and France but I think Italy just edges the French out because at least the French provided the spectacle of team implosion where as the Italians just surrendered without a whimper
Punching above their weight - a number of teams fall into this category but NZ finishing undefeated and effectively eliminating Italy has to be a strong contender but then again, Korea DPR holding Brazil to a 2-1 margin is pretty damned good too.
