World Cup Game #6

Neither team really got any rhythm going all game and both played at a slow tempo. The 1-0 result to Slovenia over Algeria was about right, particularly as Slovenia did pick up pace (finally) after Ghezzal got sent off, although Slovenia also had to work hard for a few minutes to last out the "10-man spur" that sometimes happens after a team has a player sent off.

World Cup Game #7

This was the correct result, I think, with Ghana winning 1-0 over Serbia. The first half was a bit ordinary form both teams although Ghana was (marginally) more creative. After the break though, Ghana seemed to wake up and really picked up the pace. This seemed to going nowhere until the Serbians seemed to lose focus, not only getting a player sent off but then handing Ghana a penalty for no particular reason. It was all over then, with Ghana continuing to raid and Serbia looking really forlorn until the final whistle.

World Cup Game #8

Australia were woeful in this game with a defence that looked completely out-of-sorts and an almost entirely impotent attack. The Germans took full advantage and scored 4 clean and easy goals. It was not just the number of goals either, it was also their manner - fluid, fluent and sharp. The Germans look like the first top side to hit their stride right from the first kick.

World Cup Game #9

I have to say that I was largely disappointed in this game as two skillful attacking sides neither attacked nor showed many skills for most of the game. Few of the Dutch stars shone with van Persie having an awful game. When the Dutch brought on their winger Elia, the game transformed with his speed and width revitalising the side. His shot on goal gifted Kuyt a tap-in but it was Elia's in inspiration. The Danes tried hard but lacked any real punch in their attack although Gronkjaer's pace did cause some problems. The much-vaunted Eriksen came on but didn't get any opportunity to shine. In the end, 2-0 to the Dutch was a fair result.
