Dec. 28th, 2009 11:03 pmJust finished watching this amazing series. I am just gobsmacked by it - utterly dark and near nihilistic finish to it all. Every character is just about demolished by the final episode - no happy ending here!
Compared to the US version, it is far more destructive and offers no glimpse of the positivity of that version. The lead actors are very different too - there's little to no humour here and no close relationship like the Branca/Creegan dynamic.
That said, I love both series but for different reasons, curiously for exactly that opposing dynamic between the two: the unrelenting grimness of the UK version and the ability to find the light in between from the US version. Two damned fine pieces of work regardless!
