From Dictionary.com:

tmesis - the interpolation of one or more words between the parts of a compound word, as be thou ware for beware OR Separation of the parts of a compound word by one or more intervening words; for example, where I go ever instead of wherever I go.

I prefer the example of fan-fucking-tastic for fantastic personally!

The problem now is that I always use my word of the day as an insult but that's a bit difficult here! I don't mean using tmesis to generate an insult - that's far too easy (see example above) - I mean using the word "tmesis" itself in the insult.

My only contribution so far is "You are the tmesis in the sentence of my life!" but that sounds a bit weak! Anyone do any better?

You just know that this guy is going to cop all kinds of nautical "Aye, Aye Cap'n" jokes when he gets back to work. Still, close as you ever want to get, I think.

If the snake in the library wasn't enough, now it is a croc in the pool! Not my pool, fortunately, but a public pool in Darwin. Admittedly Darwin is about 4 200 km from where I am now but, in my book, not even that distance is enough!
