The "Last Day on Set" extra was as heart-breaking as the blooper reel was funny.

The sheer genius of the writing and acting on this is so apparent.

And yet this gem is gone. Idiots! (whoops, I may have said that before!)

What was I thinking?

I just watched The Brittas Empire S4 on DVD. I shouldn't have because this was nothing like my recollection of it. I thought this series was funny once - but I sat through the whole thing this time, stony-faced, bored, not a giggle or even a smile.

Just. Not. Funny.

Don't know if that means my memory is faulty or if my sense of humour has changed. Either way, I regret watching this - it's like finding that cockroach at the bottom of the bag of chips after you have eaten them all: no matter how nice the chips seemed at the time, you are left with a bad taste in your mouth and feel moderately nauseous!

Movie Review #10 - Phone booth

A movie with one location, only 2 lead actors, one of whom you barely see and a low budget - a recipe for disaster, usually, but this time it works wonderfully well.

If so, go here for 36 pages covering the first 12 issues of Joss' run on Astonishing X-Men. To see past the first 5 pages you will have to register (and that was relatively painless for me). Just a word of caution though, in condensing each issue to about 3 pages, almost all of the wit and timing of Joss' original work is lost. Still, at least you get to catch up very quickly.

Of course, the best way to really catch up is the buy the Gifted TPB and the Dangerous TPB. The third TPB, Torn, is going to be out about March 2007.

Gifted and Dangerous are both really great stuff - most X-men comics either confuse me (what? I thought Jean was dead - oh, but that's not really Jean?) or just bore me. Every ounce of wit, imagination and humour that Joss brought to AtS, BtVS and Serenifly is here, at large and at full-speed.
