Wasn't quite sure what this movie was going to be like but overall I liked it. Special effects were magnificent but the dialogue was noticeably flat and stilted in places.
First check of the watch - never, just too distracted by the sand and the black creepy-crawly!
The transformation of Flint Marko into Sandman was just breath-taking and every scene that Sandman subsequently appeared in was just great from a technical point of view. The mud scenes in the sewers were even better. Similarly, every scene that the symbiote appeared in was great, whether it was creeping across the floor, escaping from a microscope slide, reforming as fast as Spider-Man could rip it off or coating Eddie Brock. Every time, that thing just exuded menace.
Some of the dialogue really was leaden and the more emotional interactions between Peter and MJ really didn't sound good at all. After a while, I did grow tired of Peter's eyes welling with tears but that may just because I am a heartless bastard!
Funny? - Peter's increasingly emo haircut and the fact that the deeper the symbiote drew him in, the more hair came down and the further the hair went across his face. Also Peter's Saturday Night Fever strut was hilarious just because it was so OTT. It wasn't helped by someone in the theatre saying very loudly "Wanker!" every time he did it (who could that have been *whistles nonchalantly*).
I don't like VO's generally but the funeral one was saccharine at its worst - if the theme is that obscure that you have tell me what I am supposed to get, then you haven't done it well and if it wasn't that obscure, I don't need a VO because I should have got it!
Overall - very enjoyable movie with brilliant special effects and action sequences, and adequate though not subtle plot with occasional flat dialogue and generally good acting.
