It just gets better

Just watched S105 of Dexter and this was great!

This was just a wonderful episode with so many moments that I am not sure where to begin. I do know that "Terms of Endearment" will never be the same again for me! Above all, I gave me good idea of just how much hard work it is for Dexter to fit in. The other insight is the warning that Harry gives: that faking it is easy but it gets harder, the closer you get to people - but you have to get close to people to fit in. That kind of opposing pull must cause someone like Dexter a great deal of confusion and stress.

Must get close to fit in ---> Getting close increases your risk of getting caught

Must get close to fit in <--- Getting close increases your risk of getting caught

The whole Doakes/Vince running "rat" gag was good too.

How about Deb? I think that is the first time that she really nailed something vital to the investigation without help from anyone, Dexter included. Doakes was definitely impressed, sparing as he was with his praise. Even LaGuerta's later put-downs had no impact. Deb did really well.

Angel's little speech was funny too - the one that lead to the "Terms of Endearment" scene - so good that it bears repeating:"Don't go down that emotional road, just go down on her, it's easier, and she'll be distracted." There are just so many things wrong there!

I guess an interesting thing too is that even though Dexter lives a lie, so does almost everyone else - LaGuerta (competence), Doakes (the affair), Angel (and his "wife"), Vince (so forced and unnatural) - and it make an interesting comparison.

Best of all was the Rita-Dexter conversation about normality, bearing in mind that Dexter gets advice on what love is from his two murder victims - wanting the same thing in life. That results in this lovely little mismatch of a conversation:

Dexter: Do you have a dream for your life? Your future? Yes?
Rita: Of course. Do you?
Dexter: It might sound weird. I want to someday be content. Just feel comfortable, like everyone else. I want...
Rita: ...a normal life?
Dexter: Yeah, a normal life.
Rita: That's all I want. Just that.
Dexter: No fame and fortune? Excitement at every turn?
Rita: No, I've had enough excitement, thank you. I'll take boring.
Dexter: Average.
Rita: Ordinary.
Dexter: That's weird, huh?
Rita: Yeah.

Great episode overall, possibly the best so far, I think.

Just dl-ing it now. I ad to install Firefox on the computer at work so the dl manager would kick in - otherwise it drops about at about 200 - 250 megs in!

Download managers are a lifesaver. I download at my parents' house and an episode can take me 20 min. to download if it's from a private server. Their connection is fast.

I usually get the 700 MB hi-res version but it still only takes about 30 - 35 minutes to dl. Then there's the extraction and reformatting and the copying and - it all takes toooooooo long. Worse still - I am at work so I can do all that stuff but not watch until tonight.

*Apparently* I am not allowed to watch serial killers whilst at work - rumour also has it that, by 5pm tonight, I am supposed to have completed a proposal which could have major consequences for the way the entire organization sees itself and how it works.

But Dexter is much more important - well, in my warped little head it is!

I'm a bad, bad man - I just grabbed S107 and S108 too. What can I say, I'm greedy!
