New Dexter book

The new Dexter book is called Dexter is Delicious and is due out on 7th September according to Random House.

The blurb:
"Dexter Morgan has always lived a happy homicidal life. He keeps his dark urges in check by adhering to one steadfast rule . . . he only kills very bad people. But now Dexter is experiencing some major life changes — don't we all? — and they're mostly wrapped up in the eight-pound curiosity that is his newborn daughter. Family bliss is cut short, however, when Dexter is summoned to investigate the disappearance of a seventeen-year-old girl who has been running with a bizarre group of goths who fancy themselves to be vampires. As Dexter gets closer to the truth of what happened to the missing girl, he realizes they are not really vampires so much as cannibals. And, most disturbing . . . these people have decided they would really like to eat Dexter. "

A long time ago (well in internet years, anyway) you gave me some great advice - Book!Dexter and TV!Dexter are completely different people and worlds. Don't expect either to stay in parallel with the other.

This has been very good advice and when the books become a little wacky (#3, for example and this one, from the sounds of it), I just think of it as one of those non-parallel events!

I wish a lot of True Blood/Sookie book fans would take that advice.

I was thinking of giving the Dexter books another try. When I tried the first book I didn't like the voice, but maybe I need time to acclimate to it. The wackiness of the cannibal premise is sort of my motivation now.

I found the first two books absolutely spot on for story and voice, the third was quite a strange story but the voice was OK and in the fourth one, the story was OK but the voice just off a little. This next one ..... hmmmm.
