It's sad really

I've just finished watching the first seven episodes of Heroes S1. They were so good - I remember watching each episode as it aired and recording it at the same time so I could watch it again for all the bits that everyone else saw but I never did (despite [livejournal.com profile] innerbrat's best efforts to sensitize me!)

Hiro's first "Yata!"
Claire waking up on the autopsy table
The near-invisible yet menacing presence of Sylar
The first time Jessica takes over
The first time DL does his Kitty Pryde thing
Peter/Nathan verbally sparring every second on screen
Isaac actually coherent for brief periods
The reveal of HRG as Claire's Dad

I managed to watch until the end of S1 (which was really good), watched S2 intermittently (and didn't like much of what I saw) and then never really watched it after that. What very little I have seen has seemed very disjointed and not too coherent - but that may also be a result of me not following story lines, I will admit.

What happened to that excellent start?

I'm two episodes away from to see all the third season.

I like it. I'm one of the few people around my flist liking it though. Sure it was hard to keep track of the new characters in season three but the plot kept making sense to me so I went on.
I like the fact in season three the good guys are evil and the evil ones are good... until... but let's not say anything more or I'll spoil you.

I like that too but what I did see of S3 seemed to be forced and arbitrary. I'm going to watch the whole lot right through this time and see how it comes across. It's interesting how viewing a TV series via DVD changes compared to seeing it on TV - Angel S4 was like that to me. I didn't like it so much on TV but ON DVD I love it - in fact, I think it's the best season of any of Joss' TV shows, second only to BtVS S5 which I think is damned nearly perfection.

The most loving thing about Ats season 4 for me it's the fact Cordelia dies LOL

Try to resist until the evil guys return evil and then the season will improve a lot of.

Not a Cordy fan then? Or is it the Cordy/Connor ick factor that gets you?

I love S4 because it has this kind of momentum that just rolls and rolls and rolls. There are no out-of-arc stand-alone episodes so I don't feel like the momentun is lost anywhere in the ride.

Nope ^_^
The Connor/Cordelia factor was ewwwwwww but I never liked her because of Angel.. being an AU shipper and all that ^_^

I totally agree with you about Heroes. The first season was wonderful. But just like with Lost, I lose interest and get absolutely frustrated when Abrams starts doing all the jumping around in time. I can't keep anything straight and I don't want to have to work so hard to follow the story. When almost every episode begins with "Six months earlier..." or "Five years later..." it just gets old. (he even did this type of thing in the last season of Felicity.)

You are right though, Heroes S1 was extraordinary. And there are parts of other seasons that I do really like, but I get very frustrated with the constant bringing in of new characters when older characters stories are left hanging in limbo, the time-jumping and the overall mess that it seems to be.

"mess" sems to be exactly the right word from what I can see of much of the later seasons! It really is a shame because there was so much potential there - and some damned good actors too!
